The problem is this - if your vote was thrown out, would you even know? I vote from outside the United States. You would not believe all the machinations I had to go through in order to vote. Although I have a US mailing address, the voter registration department in my county (now under the control of Republicans) would not accept it. I had to literally rent a room from a friend in order to attain an address so I could vote. It felt like I had to be a property owner in order to vote - which I'm sure is illegal. We assume things are all right when clearly they are not.
