At Channel Point Apartments in Long Beach, CA—managed by Greystar—a racist and abusive property manager is targeting a Black disabled single father. He is a professional software engineer and currently on the National Kidney Foundation transplant waiting list, with false lease violations, retroactive rent increase notices, demand for vet records for a service-animal, and threats.
The harassment began after the father received rent increases without a 30 day advanced notice and a false 3-day eviction notice accusing his daughter of living in her car. In truth, she had simply gone to her vehicle to retrieve a baby bottle for her one-year-old child. When the father calmly visited the leasing office to ask for clarification, the manager responded with, “I don’t feel comfortable talking to you alone,” and called 911 on him. No evidence—photos or videos—were ever produced to support the lease violation claims. Despite the police finding no grounds for action, Greystar then hired private security to follow and intimidate the family daily.
Now, the property’s attorney is sending threatening letters falsely claiming the father nearly got handcuffed and arrested, piling on more baseless allegations. This pattern of harassment, intimidation, and racial bias has been reported to the Fair Housing authorities, and multiple complaints have been forwarded to Greystar’s CEO—but have gone unanswered.
